How to Make an I-Spy St Patrick's Day Fairy Dust Jar Game
Kids love to play I-Spy. This jar of fairy dust has about 10 St Patrick's Day objects in it and kids can shake up the fairy dust and look for all the objects. It is so cheap and easy to make...you probably have a bunch of the items at your house.
You will need:
Jar
Glitter
Approximately 10 St. Patrick's Day objects that will fit inside the jar
Ribbon
Hot glue
St Patrick's Day sticker or button
Some of the Items I Used to Make the St Patrick's Day I Spy Fairy Dust Jar |
I laid out the St Patrick's Day objects on the table and took a picture of them before I put them in the jar so I can tell the kids which ones they are missing.

Then put approximately 10 St Patrick's Day items in the jar and filled it approximately 3/4 full of glitter. Put the lid on and shake the objects and glitter together. Put a ribbon around the lid. Hot glue a St Patrick's Day sticker or button to the front of the lid and it is ready to play. My daughter likes looking for the stuff, but she loves the fact that I call it fairy dust. I guess it's a girl thing.

How to Make St Paddy's Day Yarn Smiley Faces
St Paddy's Day Yarn Smiley Face |
My daughter thought of this and also made it. She took a styrofoam ball and started at one end of the ball. Don't start in the middle. She wrapped the green yarn around the ball with hot glue. She used a tooth pick to even out the hot glue. She wrapped it until she got to the other end. Then she wrapped black yarn in a circular motion for the eyes and put a little piece of black yarn as the mouth. She topped it off with a St Patrick's Day hat. Easy to make and she has fun!

You will need:
Photo box from craft store
Hot glue
Ribbon
Tool ribbon
Boa
Glitter
Rhinestones
Scissors
Wooden hearts
Scrapbook paper
Dowels, chopsticks or pencils (2)
Elmer's glue
This is the Valentines Day box my daughter made this year. It won first place in her classroom. She thought of everything and did everything herself, except the hot glue and cutting the opening in the top of the box. I helped her with those two things.
First I cut a hole in the top of the box. Make it large enough for Valentine cards with candy to fit. It was a little jagged so she cut ribbon and put it around the hole, covering the jagged edges. Then she glued rhinestones around the border of the ribbon. See the picture below to see the opening of the hole with the ribbon and rhinestones a little better.
NOTE: My daughter's friend did her box at our house too, but she didn't have a photo box, so she wrapped her shoebox in zebra gift wrapping paper that I had around the house. Hers worked out great too.
I hot glued the hot pink boa around the box.
I was stirring some paint with a chopstick and my daughter asked if she could get chopsticks and make a banner across the box that says Happy Valentines Day (I said yes). I thought she was very resourceful and also wondered what it would look like, but it turned out really cute. She stuck 2 chopsticks on each side of her box. Then she cut a strip of scrapbook paper as the banner and put stickers that said Happy Valentines Day across the banner. Then she glued tons of rhinestones all over the banner. Once she finished the banner and it was completely dry, I hot glued the banner to the chopsticks. NOTE: if you don't have chopsticks, you could use dowels from a craft store or even 2 pencils work too.
She took 2 white wooden hearts and wrote "TEXT ME" and "CALL ME" in Elmer's glue and the put glitter over the glue. Let it dry completely and then wiped off the excess glitter. Her friend tried to clean the glitter off while it was wet. I don't recommend that because it is easy to mess it up. Once the hearts were dry, she wiped off all the excess glitter and I hot glued them to the chopsticks. She also made wooden hearts for the side of the box and I hot glued them on. Unfortunately you can't see both sides of the box.
She made a bow around the box with white glitter tool ribbon. I helped her fluff the bow up a little and then she put a white wooden circle in the middle of the bow with her name on it.
BTW, my daughter is 10 years old so she is a little more self sufficient, but you may need to help smaller children with their boxes. My daughter and her friend had so much fun working on their Valentines boxes.
The Valentines Day box my daughter and I created is clearly for girls, but you could also do a similar Valentine's Day box for boys too. You could use a camouflage box and line the box with little green army men (instead of pink boa). You could still do a banner; just change the colors to earthtone colors. Instead of rhinestones you could use little pebbles, sticks or brown M&M's. You could also do a similar box using sports theme materials as well.
