How to Paint a Pink & Zebra Dresser

Hot pink/zebra painted dresser
I painted this white dresser for my daughter.  I also did the same technique on a bookshelf, 2 night stands and her DVD towers.

I first started by drawing the zebra pattern (freehand) in pencil on both drawers.  I then painted the zebra pattern with pure black paint from Home Depot. Let it dry completely.

If you don't have a steady hand, I would recommend taping off the drawers. It looks nicer.
I painted the second drawer down hot pink with a small sponge roller.  I used a Sherwin Williams latex paint. Sorry, I don't know the name of the paint color.  I had to apply 2 coats of paint.  Let it dry.

I then painted the third drawer down light pink with a small sponge roller.  I used a Sherwin Williams latex paint. Sorry, I don't know the name of this paint color either.  I didn't have to paint a second coat on the light pink, but I did it anyway.  Let it dry.

The next day when all the paint was completely dry, I applied a coat of clear Polyurathane with a smalll sponge roller.  Let it dry. I applied a second coat of Polyurathane.  Let it dry and it's done!.

I painted the dresser approximately 2 years ago and it hasn't chipped.  It is still in good condition.  As a matter of fact, my daughter wants to change her colors in her room and I am going to paint over the colors.  I will have to sand the zebra pattern and then prime it and paint it to match her new room colors.

This was so easy to do.  It will completely change the look of the room.

Don't be afraid of paint.  Here are some other things I painted:

Footstool with Chalkboard Paint

I painted this base of this footstool with red spray paint and sprayed the top of the stool with black chalkboard paint.  You could also paint it with red latex paint, if you are not comfortable using spray paint.

Spray Painted Bookshelf
I have had this bookshelf for a while. It was originally a blonde colored bookshelf that didn't go with my decor, so I decided to paint it. The paint chipped a little so I made it looked distressed by sanding it in a few places. It looked cute but I got tired of it and decided to paint it one solid color again. I was concerned the paint would chip again, so I had a can of Krylon (for Plastic) Spray Paint and decided to try it. It worked! It has not chipped and it looks great. There is not one stratch or chip on the bookshelf. I know there are better way to paint a bookshelf, but I was just using what I had at my house. If it should chip, I will try the Benjamin Moore Low Luster Paint for wood. I hear it works great.

Repainted Items in my Daughter's Room

I bought these 3 items and they were either white or not in my daughter's room colors.  I liked the items, but they were either boring or didn't mathc, so I painted them to match her hot pink zebra themed room.

Hand Painted Zebra Shelf

I painted this little storage shelf for my daughter. I painted it freehand.  It was actually really easy. Find a pattern you like in a book, magazine or online and practice on scratch paper before you attempt it on the item.  Then paint away!

Painted Mason Jars
I painted the lids and finials green. I glued the finial on top.  I had everything on hand.  It cost me nothing to make these. We use them as candy jars.  They actually look cute when they are filled with candy.
